Mercy: a Dominican view

Around the beginning of this academic year, I was leafing through my engagement diary, and was startled to come across a scribbled note to self which simply read “end of mercy”. The somewhat alarming entry was for an evening in late November, and it took me a minute or two to realise that it referred in shorthand to something I’d agreed to take on before the summer break and then forgotten, namely, as you’ve probably guessed, organising an event at the university chaplaincy in Cambridge to mark the conclusion of the Jubilee Year of mercy.

ST THOMAS AQUINAS WEEKEND  NOVEMBER 2016:   A PERSONAL REFLECTION ON  THREE TALKS AND A SERMON GIVEN BY FR.SIMON GAINE O.P     

 

Ten of us gathered in the lecture room at St Dominic’s Convent, Stone on Saturday November 26 to hear Fr.Simon Gaine O.P., speak on the wisdom of Our Lord and the sources of his knowledge.  We hoped thereby to deepen our Faith in and love of our Saviour.  In view of the difficulties of this topic, we were urged to keep in the front of our minds the Divine Person we would be talking about and the help of the Holy Spirit we needed to understand him better.

Stoke-on Trent update

On Saturday October 29th the parish of Our Lady and the Angels and St Peter-in-Chains, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, held a reflective day on Sts. Dominic and Catherine of Sienna, given by Elizabeth Rees a well known author of books on Celtic spirituality. 

Our day started with our being warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Fr. Michael Miners and his Deacon, Tony Bradshaw, into their warm and recently renovated church which looked lovely with its many statues of Dominican saints.  The celebration of Holy Mass followed at 10 am, which gave us a good start to the day.
